Resources and Features

Teaching: University-wide Accounting Assessment Exam

We established the Accounting Education Task Force in 2007 in order to improve the quality of accounting instruction and standardize the content of accounting courses. In the same year, we organized the University-wide Accounting Assessment Exam in which thousands of students participated. The exam questions were written by our accounting instructors, and all participating students were evaluated on an equal basis. The top 100 performers on the exam received monetary awards and certificates of recognition. The goal was to incentivize learning through fair competition.

Counseling: The Accounting Learning Support Center

The Accounting Learning Support Center was created to provide a comfortable learning and study environment for students. Books and laptop computers are available for use. The center is also staffed with accounting tutors, who provide academic support to other students taking accounting courses; the tutors are selected from the top 100 performers on the University-wide Accounting Assessment Exam. We believe the tutors themselves also learn from teaching their fellow students.

Service: Volunteer Training Program

The Volunteer Training Program was set up to cultivate justice and empathy in students and help improve their work ethic. Students choose the type of community service they would like to perform according to their interests; then they plan and execute activities related to the chosen service. Team leaders are chosen among the volunteers, and they oversee the training of volunteers and act as liaisons with faculty. Team leaders are also take career training courses. Through career training and actual service, students can learn from hands-on experience, enhance their coordination and integration skills, and become more competitive in the job market.

Professionalism: Interdisciplinary Curriculum and Diversity in Learning

Our interdisciplinary curriculum emphasizes diversity in learning and certification in specialized areas. We have reduced the number of required courses, which gives students more flexibility in customizing their course schedules: they have options of choosing a minor, obtaining a second major, or enrolling in the five year master’s program. The Modular Certificate System allows students to take courses outside of accounting, in areas such as management, information technology, finance, and law. Students can earn a learning certificate with 10 credits in one area. This open approach to learning encourages students to explore different subjects and integrate knowledge from multiple fields.

International exchange: International Learning Environment

Students benefit from more than 200 sister schools located in 28 countries, spanning five continents; they have opportunities such as joint degree programs, exchange student programs, short-term study, and international internship programs. Moreover, whether it is domestic students hosting international students or international students tutoring domestic students in foreign languages, faculty and students of this department find themselves in an environment with plenty of exposure to international culture and ideas. This builds a strong foundation in professional knowledge and language skills, which helps students become skilled professionals in a global workplace.

Practice: Business Management Model Lectures

The goal of our department is to produce world-class leaders with emphasis on both theory and practice. Therefore, we regularly invite chief executives from multinational corporations and accounting firms, and senior-level government officials to speak at our department. These lectures are very popular with students; they can learn the latest trends in various industries and see how professional knowledge is applied in a real-world setting.

Internship: International Internship Program

Our internship program was established in 2009. Students have the option to intern at a multinational accounting firm or corporation for an entire school year, for a semester, or during the summer. Internships are available at 1,200 companies in 45 countries, including Italy, Germany, China, Vietnam, and India. Domestic interns earn a scholarship of NT $25,000 per month, which is sponsored by local businesses. Interns who perform well are offered full-time positons at the end of the internship, and their internship hours are counted as actual work experience when determining compensation. Our internship program provides a platform for cooperation between industry and the university and is highly regarded in the business world.
